No, people haven't actually asked us anything yet. But we're pre-empting the questions you were going to ask, were too shy to ask, or didn't even think to ask!
What should I wear?
There's no hard and fast dress code: we want you to come cool, comfortable, and summery as a hot day in early August. Think "summer dressy." We're suggesting colorful sundresses for the dress-loving humans, slacks and a polo/button-up for the pants-loving humans, and anything in between or outside the box for those who march to their own beat (dressy rompers for the win!). Practical shoes are a must (hillsides aren't made of linoleum, you know), and dresses longer than mini-skirts are recommended (ceremony seating will be primarily on quilts).
What's this I hear about an "unplugged ceremony"? What's that all about?
Your presence is worth more to us than any present... The fact that you all are traveling from every corner of the U.S. and Canada to be present for our wedding means the world to us. We want to be there with YOU, not your electronic devices! We are asking that you keep your cameras and cell phones tucked away during the ceremony.
However, we encourage you to take photos before and after the ceremony: we'll miss out on all of your personal experiences, and we can't wait to relive those missed moments through your photographs. Once we've sealed the deal with a kiss, you'll be free (and encouraged!) to snap away. Any and all wedding photographs can be tagged with the hashtag #birdbear2016.
I've heard Dan is a vegan/freegan/dumpster diver. Does this mean I have to eat weird stuff?
We want our wedding day to blend our own values with the stuff that makes our loved ones happy... And we know that big hunks of meat make some of you very, very happy. Your standard food groups will all be represented, but we are working together with our caterers to make sure our food is organic, locally sourced, and grown in sustainable, ethical ways.
What should I bring with me?
If you're staying at Sugar Hollow, you'll have a kitchen decked out with all necessary appliances, but you'll need to bring your own food for all meals except Friday dinner, Saturday dinner, and Sunday brunch. Our favorite way to cook is co-op style: we recommend you round up your friends or family, designate the meals parts ("You get bacon, I'll get eggs!"), and cook big communal meals together! We'll be in the woods, so bug spray, sunscreen, swimsuit (there's a nearby river), and good walking/hiking shoes are a must. For the welcome dinner and brunch, recommended dress is "dressy casual."
We've been friends for awhile, and you didn't invite me! What's the deal?
Given that our venue sleeps only 50 people and there aren't hotels nearby, and given our own personal preference, we've decided to have a very intimate wedding, with only our family and a few close friends. Because there are many people we would LOVE to celebrate with who we can't squeeze into our intimate venue, we'll be hosting a larger, more casual reception in Nashville. Let us know if you live outside of Nashville and would like to join!
