We love and appreciate that folks are driving, flying, training, boating, scootering, and otherwise traveling in from all corners of the country to celebrate with us. We couldn't bear to limit ourselves to a few minutes with each of you at the wedding reception: we want to spend the whole weekend with you! For that reason, and because we're hosting wedding activities on-site all weekend long, we're hoping you'll stay at or nearby our wedding location, Sugar Hollow Retreat.
Sugar Hollow is a beautiful mountain & wildlife retreat nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, 30 minutes from Kate's hometown of Boone, NC. It overlooks Watauga Lake and the infamous Appalachian Trail, so it'll be your chance to make all your outdoor activity dreams come true: climbing, hiking, rafting, canoeing, you name it!
OPTION #1: Lodging On-Site (Immediate Family)
After some complicated juggling, we have worked together to find a bed on-site for every parent, grandparent, aunt, and uncle, as well as cots, couches, and space for air mattresses for cousins. All immediate family members will have the opportunity to affordably rent a room in the main lodge or share a cabin with other close family members. We will be renting the facility from Friday 9am until Sunday 5pm, with the opportunity to extend your stay by a day on either end. We welcome you to come as early as you want and stay as long as you can. For more information, please contact Jeanne Tygielski (mother of the bride) at jtygiel@aol.com.
OPTION #2: Camping On-Site (Everyone)
For those of you with adventure in your bones, you'll have the opportunity to camp at Sugar Hollow Retreat for a nominal fee (e.g., $10/night). For campers with outdoor ambitions, Sugar Hollow hosts gorgeous woodlands and rolling hills to camp on, as well as a large fire pit pre-stocked with wood. For those who prefer a bit more comfort, outdoor/indoor "glamping" (glamorous camping) is available in the conference center and on the porch of the conference center. Indoor and outdoor campers alike are welcome to use the indoor showers, bathrooms, and kitchen in the conference center, reserved exclusively for campers. Those camping on the cabin porch will also have access to bathrooms and a kitchen.Option #3: Lodging Off-Site (Everyone)
There are no hotels in the vicinity, but there are beautiful cabin rentals within short driving distances that can affordably house 4-10 people. We've gathered up a list of rentals within a 5-15 minute drive of Sugar Hollow. If you'd like help finding people to share a larger cabin with you, please let us know! Don't wait to book these: many of these cabins book up a year in advance!
