Though it will be a sizeable schlep from any airport, we are very happy to report that driving in the mountains is a spectacular experience, and once you've arrived, the only things on your to-do list will be (1) kick up your feet, and (2) relax.

Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI) is the closest airport to Sugar Hollow, hailing in at 70-minute drive. This airport has direct flights to/from Charlotte, Atlanta, Orlando, and Tampa. You may find a reasonable flight, if you can stop through these cities!

Next up, Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is a 2-hour drive, and connects to many major hubs. Flight prices range from steeper to steepest, but if Asheville has been on your bucket list for the last decade, it may be worth it!

Penultimately, if you live in a city with Allegiant Airlines, you're in luck! Concord Regional Airport (JQF) is a 2-hour drive, and it's the best deal around town.

And finally (and farthest), Charlotte Douglass International Airport (CLT) and Piedmont Triad Airport (GSO) both cash in at a 2.5-hour drive. These are the longest drives, but the cheapest flights if Allegiant isn't an option. Plus, you can't beat the beauty of the mountainous drive.

A few pointers for the "flatlanders" as you make your way up the mountain:

1.) Sugar Hollow has cell service and internet connection, but some parts of the drive up the mountain won't. We recommend you take a screenshot of your route overview, or print out directions in advance from Sugar Hollow's website, and if you get lost, well... Bring rations! (Just kidding, Southerners are the nicest people you'll ever meet: just stop and ask someone for directions!)

2.) The final mile of road is made of gravel, and there are some steep drop-offs to one side. Never fear! To date, only one driver has ever tipped off the side (and it was at the end of a very long wedding night!). It may be a little harrowing, but keep calm and drive on! If you're renting a car, a 4-wheel-drive is recommended, but not required.

3.) The nearest grocery store is 40-45 minutes away. Load up on all your booze, snacks, and meal-fixings as you pass through Boone or Johnson City!
